10 INTERESTING MATHEMATICS FACTS

1. If you write out pi to two decimal places, backwards it spells “pie”.
3.14 = pie
2. A pizza that has radius “z” and height “a” has volume Pi × z × z × a.
Because the area of a circle is Pi multiplied by the radius squared (which can be written out as Pi × z × z).
Then you multiply by the height to get the total volume.
3. 2,520 is the smallest number that can be exactly divided by all the numbers 1 to 10.

4. Zero is the only number that can’t be represented in Roman numerals.
5. 10! seconds is exactly 6 weeks.
10! means 10 factorial. 10! = 10 × 9 × 8 × 7 × 6 × 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 3628800 seconds.
Which is 42 days, or 6 weeks, exactly.

6. 555 is used by some in Thailand as slang for “hahaha”, because the word for “five” is pronounced “ha”.
7. Hundred(100) derives The word ‘hundrath’ in Old Norse, meant not 100 but 120.

8. Students who chew gum have better math test scores than those who do not, a study found.
9. There are just four numbers (after 1) which are the sums of the cubes of their digits.
153 = 1^3 + 5^3 + 3^3
370 = 3^3 + 7^3 + 0^3
371 = 3^3 + 7^3 + 1^3
407 = 4^3 + 0^3 + 7^3

10. The only number in English that is spelled with its letters in alphabetical order is ‘forty’.
