When we insert pen-drive in USB port it always shows slightly less space than given, like 8 GB shows 7.89 GB( not exact ).Do you know why?
This is because of different calculation of 1 KB, 1 MB and 1 GB by computer and manufacturer of pen-drive.
A computer system calculates 1 KB =1024 byte , 1 MB = 1024 KB and 1 GB =1024 MB
but pen-drive manufacturers take 1 KB =1000 byte , 1 MB = 1000 KB and 1 GB =1000 MB
So when you insert pen-drive , for computer to read 8 GB space it should have 8*1024 MB =8192 MB but actually have 8*1000 MB=8000 MB . So, there is a lack of 192 MB, that’s why computers show slightly less space than actually printed on the cover.
But hold on, pen-drive companies are not doing any fraud, as it is clearly written on the cover of a pen-drive that 1 KB =1000 byte.
Nice to know it
ReplyDeleteBut why can't they use the same scale?
